Evasive Note

Authored

  • My granddad passed away this week. I also learnt a former colleague of ours (of R and I) sadly passed away, too. As friends and family sometimes read these weeknotes it would feel weird to not acknowledge that but I shan't say anymore.
  • In cheerier news the wedding went ahead! Although a cold was introduced to the Bubble of Prestige which caused quite a fright – that is the bubble of important family members, plus me, during the run-up. Thankfully a PCR test confirmed we needn't have worried. Lateral flows and cocktails all round!
  • It was an amazing weekend. There's so much I could talk about. How R described me as a hanger on to the vicar in rehearsal (not inaccurately 😂); the spectacular church and venue; the speeches; the excellent, and unique, taste of the bride and groom (my word, even the place names were noteworthy).
  • I got to meet some of R's Liverpool contingent, which was nice. When we got to talking about moving to Sheffield and where I'm from, I described myself as northern enough to know the word "nesh" but not northern enough to not be nesh, which I think is about right.
  • Turns out sambuca is still a shot I enjoy if I'm going to "have" to shot something. Tied with gin. Tequila not so much, thanks.
  • All summer has been a rollercoaster of cautious isolation weeks before a fun thing, then cautious isolation again. Now my calendar is empty I'm keen to make the most of local activities before the inevitable winter consequences of loosened covid restrictions. Like, maybe I'll find someone to come to the cinema to watch Candyman with me. R doesn't like horror. And neither do I, really, except I do... kinda... just I'm still scared to look in the mirror two days after watching the trailer...
  • Boo!
