Cautious Note

  • Mead is a drink I want to love more than I probably do right now. I read an article on how to make medieval mead and it's very, very tempting, but... I was quite put off by the "this can scald your eyeballs" bit.
  • I took 10% time at work (like 20%, but less) to try out svelte kit, I'm a fan.
  • Otherwise, lots of meetings at work this week. I've been helping run technical interviews. It's been tiring but surprisingly rewarding. Nice also to reflect with my fellow interviewer (hi!?) on why we like working at the FT, and within our team, when candidates have asked; some have seemed shocked at our tenure.
  • Is it just me that's only now spotted the tea weasel – or stoat?
  • I also saw a couple of squirrels humping – cute.
  • That's about the only time I left the house this week. I've been particularly scared of covid for reasons of not wanting to bring down R's sibling's upcoming wedding. I'm staying with their immediate family the week before, just enough time to incubate covid and force very important guests – mum, dad, siblings – to self isolate. I've done all I can to avoid that eventuality, except refuse to stay the week before, my conscience is clear-ish.
  • R took more time off and is already there. We've been apart for the longest time since records began. And after being in each other's constant company the last couple of years I expected... more? Sure I lived by my (covid-fearing) whims with impunity but, eh? I'm looking forward to being reunited.
  • That's it. Winter is here. The house is apparently still warm but my fingers and toes have sensed the change and turned back to ice. It's too soon!
