Classic weeknote! Because I'm writing it whilst super tired and ignoring tragic world events.

A little over a week ago (weeknote cheat, my rules here) was bonfire night. This is the first year we've been at home in Sheffield and not away, so we finally got to enjoy our nearby view over the city.

I may have taken a little thermos of hot chocolate and cream liqueur.

To the distance, a city aglow. Then dark, sweeping residential hills flecked with fireworks. In the foreground, a large colourful explosion illuminates a crowd.
When did fireworks get so loud? :old-man:

Last weekend I finished putting up a little shed, to replace our old one. I'd hoped to repair the roof but found the whole thing was rotten and barely held together by cobwebs.

Inside, 5 of what I think could have been false widows! They can bite, but it's no worse than a wasp sting – apparently. I'm unashamed to say they felt my boot. I was brave and let some big boy (non-bitey) spiders flee.

A close-up of a spider within a wooden shed. It has a big ol' abdomen with a narrow cream band.
A false widow spider in our old shed?

Tidying up the shed at home. Tidying up the allotment. I tried to wash some things I shouldn't have. CLR FLTR.

A brown, murky puddle extends from the corner of the washing machine. A tray lies mostly empty and useless. Towels are soaked.
Least I've learnt about the little hose near the filter now. To drain without making a mess.

Guess what I found in the filter?

Behind the filter, if you dare look...

A small propeller within the washing machine, wrapped up tight with foul gunk.
Hair and cotton ribbon and fine plastic strips presumably from allotment fleece / enviromesh.

From this mess to work. Which isn't a mess, but hasn't been easy this year.

Origami on tour. My team have been going around sharing our work and have had some really nice engagement and useful feedback so far. It's been a delight to see my teammates picking up this kinda work and doing a smashing job.

We also had a knowledge share session with our Nikkei colleagues. I didn't think to leave translation time in my presentation, but am pleased to say we got through it all at a relaxed pace and still had enough time for questions.

I decided I should take a more relaxed approach during these cold, bleak winter months. That plan failed yesterday evening thanks to the JavaScript ecosystem. CLR FLTR.

Don't worry though, I'm going to take a little time in lieu to reset. Get a few more daylight hours in at the allotment perhaps 😊

Speaking of, check out my pumpkin based allotment update!

A pumpkin with Halloween-style face drew on with marker. It's friendly, it's menacing, it has a kitchen knife in its head.
Happy halloween. There's > 4kg of pumpkin there which we're still enjoying now.
