Squiggly Note

  • As lockdown began to lift we started looking locally for activities and discovered there is a gin distillery right on our doorstep. We booked in a tour and had a lovely evening. In Covid times it involved sitting stationary on our own table in a sparsely populated distillery whilst fun stories, facts, and tasters were delivered.
  • Long story short we have plenty of gin in the flat. Since we've cancelled plans now we're under tier 2 restrictions, I think enjoying it at home is the main theme of this week 😅 🍸
  • Old Tom was my favourite. A little sweeter than London Dry. Apparently it gets its name from a time the government tried to limit gin consumption with a large licence fee, where the tom cat became a symbol for illicit gin outlets. Something something cat symbol. Something something password. Something something gin chute into the mouth.
  • Woah, graze.com memories.
  • Plant Twitter had helped me identify some house plant pests recently. Looks like they might have been thrips. Yikes! I ended up reluctantly binning the plants this week. 😭 In a small one bed flat, full of plants, there's no where for them to go safely until nursed back to vigour. I had tried giving the leaves and stems a regular, soapy sponge bath but found the critters returned quickly. Removing the worst affect foliage would have helped but wouldn't have left much of the plants, they were small. Since they took pride of place and won't be growing much this time of year I didn't go for that.
  • You win some, you lose some.
  • I continue to enjoy the Squiggly careers podcast. Would recommend! They discuss topics of career development including career confidence, job crafting, career pivots, etc. My career has not been very squiggly. At the FT I work alongside wonderful engineers, many with interesting hobbies or non-tech backgrounds. Oh God, I'm soooo dull.
  • If I were an energy vampire would you tell me, dear reader?
  • That's all for this week. I'm off to drain the energy of an unsuspecting victim with my dullness do something exciting.
  • Have a nice weekend! 😊
