- This week in lockdown gluttony: I got a "hangover" from being too greedy with my chip shop choices, is this a symptom of growing older?
- You might think, well, treat yourself, at least the running habit has somewhat stuck, despite winter. Hahahahaha! Nope, this week was the first week I've run since then. I didn't go far and I didn't go fast but it felt great. The hills here quickly tired me out however what goes up must come down and I barrelled home.
- I watched The Lighthouse (2019), which is a good watch if you're into psychological horror/thrillers. Wow, I hope I don't end up stuck in a house with one other person unable to leave a small island for months on end. That would be unimaginable.
- My local tech community has an IRC channel which I joined but haven't interacted with so far (boo! my name is notlee, the friendly ghost 👻). I've actually never used IRC before but am pleased to report that I managed to avoid an Ed Balls moment — incidentally Ed's cooking up a storm on Celebrity Best Home Cook at the moment.
- A few colleagues have been experimenting with a virtual office space in gather.town, complete with roof garden and secret lounge. It's been so much fun. I actually went and stood by the virtual water cooler, had a chat with someone, and ended up resolving a little technical issue. Nice! Because of the physical, mingling element I reckon a virtual bar or something with games could be an excellent remote social. We learnt if you hit a certain key repeatedly your character's arms wave about and a little heart appears above your head, the return of the office romance?
- Thinking about work here's a web development thing I loved this week, "Lea Verou: The web design cheat code: Using SVG to bridge CSS’ gaps". Lea helps us understand the SVG view box, animate CSS backgrounds, produce some snazzy borders, and recreate squiggle vision.
- It's grim out there but the snowdrops are out, spring and summer are creeping closer. Hopefully we can catchup in real life before too long 😊
