Babka Note

Authored

  • Reader, I had my first beard mishap this week. 😱 On the internet no one can tell you're a dog or that you're missing a chunk of beard below the chin.
  • I sent my sister a birthday card with a cat's arse by accident. The cat is sat on a chair looking cute and putting it's legs in the air like a silly billy but oh no! It’s actually trying to lick it's arse or something and there’s a little "x" character where it’s bottom would be.
  • Why am I not in Brighton? Why am I not at ffconf? A wonderful conference with wonderful people ❤️ Bloody Covid huh?
  • Tap, tap, tap tap. That's the sound of me typing away at this furiously on less than 3 hours sleep. Ooof there're going to be some spelling mistakes.
  • It's not the first time this week that I've got less than 3 hours sleep. Yuk.
  • Last week a colleague shared this sourdough Babka recipe in our baking Slack channel at work, along with photos of their bake. I was so jealous of and ravenous for their Babka that I had to bake one too. Now I'm waiting for the oven to warm to bake my second Babka this week!
  • My expectation is that Babka 2 will have improved form thanks to better rolling but taste will take a hit, I totally forgot to add cinnamon. Looks like I'm baking a third next week.
  • I'm trying to hold in the gluttony now to maintain gluttonous fulfilment through December, Christmas, and the rest of the pandemic. Unsuccessfully.
  • The Great British Bake Off is over. A slice of innocent joy 😭 Although Channel 4 you can stop with your music making me think the cake will topple when it won't, I just. Not now Channel 4. We're too fragile for your cake related tension.
  • Tara interviewed tech leads at the FT and wrote what she found in a blog post, Technical Leadership in Customer Products at the FT. It's so good. What a great way to meet people, find out more about a role, and set youself up to do that role in the future. I'd love to read more blog posts like this for different roles, from the FT and elsewhere.
  • More weeknotes alert! Matt Hinchliffe wrote an excellent weeknote. Loving the design of the site, gifs, sparkles, cursor trail, and all.
  • The taps are slowing. The end of this weeknote is near. Hope you have a good weekend reader!
